Spider popart painting

Arachnopopia

This painting is entitled “Arachnopopia”.

It’s about fear of spiders and pop art.

The image of the woman I found in a Philadelphia Inquirer Sunday magazine, I think it was from a little detective story.

The background image is a photograph of a fan box. It was very hot one day and I bought a fan. I liked the image on the box and I changed the colors for this painting.

And then I went on Instagram and I found a retro image of a spider.

Matchsticks pop art painting

Matchsticks

So I was taking a walk and I happen to find a pack of matches on the ground, which had this pizza guy on there.

The pack of matches was tattered, and the front of it was almost torn off. But I took it home.

I wanted to paint it. I thought it was great. And when I took it back to my copy stand, all I did was move the face from the main image to the other side of it. I thought the composition was perfect.

After I created this painting, I didn’t intend it, but it looked like a Roy Lichtenstein. I think it’s just because of the gray and the yellow.

This is one of my favorite paintings.
